From the Fight Against Infections Foundation, we held the presentation of the 16th edition of the People in Red Barcelona Solidarity Gala at Barcelona City Hall.
The event took place in the Saló de Cròniques and brought together the Honourable Maria Eugènia Gay Rosell, Deputy Mayor, who welcomed all attendees, as well as Dr Bonaventura Clotet, President of the Fight Against Infections Foundation; actress Sílvia Abril; model and actress Martina Klein; former tennis player and sports commentator Alex Corretja; Michelin-starred chef Nandu Jubany; and space designer Toni Seguí, among others. Once again, the alliance with Barcelona City Council adds institutional weight to the event, which has carried the city’s name since last year.
On Monday 11 May, People in Red Barcelona will celebrate its sixteenth edition at the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (MNAC) as the flagship Solidarity Gala to raise funds for infectious disease research. It is important to note that, according to the WHO, one in five deaths worldwide is caused by infections — a fact that reinforces the relevance of the Foundation’s work.
A key new feature of this edition is the creation of the People in Red Barcelona Solidarity Award, established to honour individuals, projects, or initiatives that make an exemplary contribution to community health, social awareness, and the promotion of scientific research.
This year, the award will go to filmmaker, actor, and creator Eduardo Casanova, known for his distinctive and bold perspective in works such as Silencio or Sidosa. Recently, he publicly shared that he lives with HIV — a decision that not only has personal significance but also collective impact: “it opens necessary conversations, helps dismantle stigma, and reinforces the importance of speaking about health with respect and truth,” the Foundation explains.
The award consists of a sculpture by internationally recognised artist Jaume Plensa. The piece, titled Love Hope, was originally created for the Foundation in 2015 and will be presented during the Gala evening at the MNAC. Plensa is known for his monumental sculptures, centred on the human figure and introspection, using materials such as iron, light, water, and sound. This particular artwork features his own hand with the words Love Hope inscribed between the fingers — a unique piece created specifically for the Fight Against Infections Foundation.
The night will feature two standout names from the music scene: Amaral and Joan Dausà, who will provide the soundtrack to the event with a repertoire prepared especially for the occasion.
The Zaragoza duo Amaral will bring their signature pop‑rock sound, with songs that have become part of the collective memory of several generations. Meanwhile, Joan Dausà will offer an intimate and emotional live performance, with tracks that have established him as one of the most recognisable voices in today’s Catalan music landscape.
For the fifth consecutive year, the Gala’s content and script will be directed by El Terrat (The Mediapro Studio), and actresses and presenters Sílvia Abril and Toni Acosta will host the show.
The gastronomic offer will be curated by Catalan chef Nandu Jubany, whose menu will elevate the experience of the Solidarity Gala. The after‑party will round off the night with music by DJ Fede Sardà and signature cocktails by renowned mixologist Manel Vehí, keeping the celebration going late into the night.
A wide range of companies, organisations, and individuals support the People in Red Barcelona Solidarity Gala to promote cutting‑edge research on infectious diseases.
Main sponsors include Fundació SEAT‑CUPRA, MAC, Eurofirms, Fundació La Caixa, Grífols, Osborne Clarke and Mesoestetic, whose contributions make the Gala possible.
