This Giving Tuesday, we launch a solidarity campaign to protect immunocompromised patients
25/11/2025
On December 2, the Fight Against Infections Foundation joins Giving Tuesday with a clear goal: to raise funds to implement a pioneering strategy that protects immunocompromised patients before it’s too late. Every day, hundreds of people with cancer, transplants, or hematological diseases live under the constant risk of severe infections. Their immune system is weakened, and viruses like cytomegalovirus (CMV) can reactivate and cause serious complications: prolonged hospitalizations, aggressive treatments, and, in some cases, death.
An innovative strategy
Our researchers, Pedro Puerta and Lluïsa Pedro-Botet, lead a project aimed at monitoring immunity against CMV in immunocompromised patients. Using advanced techniques such as ELISPOT and PCR, we can detect the loss of defenses early and act before the virus causes disease. This means fewer hospitalizations, fewer aggressive treatments, and a better quality of life for the most vulnerable patients.
How can you help?
We only need €10,000 to start the project. With €20,000, we can apply this strategy to 40 patients.
Every donation counts. Every euro saves lives.
Join Giving Tuesday
On December 2, after the consumer rush of Black Friday, celebrate with us the act of giving to improve the lives of others. With your support, we can make personalized and preventive medicine a reality—transforming the way we care for the most vulnerable patients.
