17th edition of the Workshop Hot Topics in HIV: innovation and scientific debate in Barcelona

This November, we celebrated the 17th edition of the Workshop Hot Topics in HIV at the Hub Social Barcelona – Fundació Bofill, an event organised by ScienHub Education, the platform that drives the training activities of the Fight Against Infections Foundation, in collaboration with IrsiCaixa.

After 40 years of research into HIV infection, it is clear that, although preventive measures have significantly reduced transmission rates, they have not been sufficient to completely stop the epidemic. For this reason, the current approach also focuses on cure strategies, aiming to eradicate the virus or achieve long-term remission without the need for continuous treatment.

This edition brought together more than 100 experts, young researchers and professionals to review the latest advances in HIV research and treatment. During the workshop, topics such as reservoir formation, persistent viraemia, strategies for an HIV cure and innovative therapies were addressed. Participants also explored research on vaccines, combination therapies and immunotherapies, and debated the future of HIV treatment.

Key Speakers at the 17th Edition of Hot Topics in HIV

Some of the featured speakers included Katharine Bar and Dimitra Peppa discussing antibodies and NK cells; Carmen Gasca Capote and Meritxell Genescà Ferrer on integration sites and mucosal immunity; and Jonah Sacha, Mayte Coiras, Christian Gaebler and Linos Vandekerckhove on cure strategies, antibody-based therapies and CCR5 approaches.

The event was coordinated by Javier Martínez-Picado and Bonaventura Clotet, president of the Foundation, with the support of ViiV Healthcare and other sponsors, who make it possible to continue driving HIV research forward.
