Four years of training in ageing and HIV: a consolidated commitment to excellence

Ageing and HIV is today one of the major clinical and care-related challenges in the field of infectious diseases. Advances in antiretroviral treatment have enabled people living with HIV to achieve an increasingly longer life expectancy. However, this also brings new challenges associated with comorbidities, chronic inflammation and the need for multidisciplinary health management.

In response to this reality, the Fight Infections Foundation through our training events platform ScienHub Education, is launching a new edition of the Centre of Excellence in Comprehensive Management for Active and Healthy Ageing with HIV. This is a high-level, face-to-face training programme aimed at healthcare professionals interested in the care of people ageing with HIV.

Addressing ageing and HIV from a comprehensive perspective

Ageing and HIV requires a specific approach that goes beyond virological control. As the years go by, people living with HIV may face a higher risk of cardiovascular disease, metabolic disorders, bone deterioration, frailty or cognitive impact, making tailored care adapted to their needs essential.

The Centre of Excellence is an initiative promoted by Gilead Sciences and proposes a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach, combining clinical knowledge, analysis of real-life cases and spaces for professional debate to improve clinical practice in this field.

More than 12 hours of theoretical and practical training

The course offers more than 12 hours of intensive training, delivered across two in-person sessions. The programme includes:

  • Theoretical sessions on the main challenges of ageing and HIV
  • Interactive and participatory workshops
  • Discussion of clinical cases
  • Spaces for multidisciplinary reflection among professionals

This structure allows scientific knowledge to be translated into everyday clinical practice, with a clearly applied focus.

Leading professionals in ageing and HIV

The training features the participation of leading professionals in the field of HIV and ageing, integrated into care and research teams from the Fundació Lluita contra les Infeccions, the Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital and the IrsiCaixa Research Institute.

Scientific coordination is led by Dr Eugènia Negredo, Head of HIV at the Fight Infections Foundation, who has been leading for many years a research line focused on HIV-associated complications, chronic inflammation and ageing, with national and international recognition.

A benchmark training space

The Centre of Excellence in Ageing and HIV forms part of the Foundation’s commitment to consolidating spaces for specialised training, knowledge transfer and continuous professional development, aimed at professionals who seek to improve care for people living with HIV at an increasingly prevalent stage of life.
