Science Week in Badalona

Badalona Science Week is an annual event dedicated to scientific dissemination, with the aim of bringing science and technology closer to the public. This year, the 29th edition is being celebrated, taking place from 13 to 29 November 2024.

During this period, various activities are organized aimed at schoolchildren, children, young people and families, such as:

  • Science Day in Schools: Online sessions with scientists from different disciplines for secondary school students.
  • Conferences and visits for high school and training courses: Presentations and tours of research centers on the Can Ruti Campus.
  • Up-close science for everyone: Experimental workshops and conferences open to the general public in Plaça de la Vila and at Badalona City Hall.
  • Workshops for children and families in libraries: Practical activities to foster interest in science among the youngest.

These activities are organized by several entities of the Can Ruti Campus, including the Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP), the Josep Carreras Leukemia Research Institute (IJC), IrsiCaixa, the Fight Against Infections Foundation, the Badalona Museum, the Municipal Library Network and the Education Service of the Badalona City Council.

The main objective of Science Week is to foster interest in science and technology, as well as promote scientific vocations among young people.

Conferences and visits for high school and training courses

This year, from the Fundació Lluita contra les Infecciones, we have collaborated with the Badalona Science Week in a very active way, welcoming a group of high school, nursing and pharmacy students who wanted to learn first-hand how clinical research is managed.

Science up close for everyone

Throughout Science Week, we had the opportunity to participate in the “Science up close for everyone” space, held in Plaça de la Vila. There we presented the workshop “How to do science, but good science”, designed especially for children and led by psychologist and researcher José A. Muñoz-Moreno.

In addition, the researcher of the Foundation and doctor of the Germans Trias Hospital, Xavier Vallès, offered the conference “How to study imported and neglected diseases in our country: the example of schistosomiasis” in the El Refugi space, also located in Plaça de la Vila.

Without a doubt, it has been a very enriching day, in which we have brought science closer to the public in an accessible and close way. We have also taken the opportunity to publicize our solidarity socks, inviting everyone to join the fight against infectious diseases with a small but significant contribution.
