COVID-19

COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus that has affected millions of people worldwide. In September 2021, the World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed more than 4.5 million deaths worldwide.

THE CHALLENGE

The emergence of COVID-19 has marked a turning point in research on infectious diseases.

Further research is needed to find treatments that work for the acute disease, prevent is progression and reduce mortality. Likewise, it is estimated that 10% of people who have recovered from this infection are left with persistent COVID: the causes of this syndrome need to be found and patients must be offered the best therapeutic solutions.

WHAT HAVE WE DONE SO FAR?

2020

We have conducted more than 20 clinical trials with international institutions to advance knowledge about the virus.

We started up the first Persistent COVID-19 Unit in Spain.

We launched the #JoEmCorono campaign to help research on SARS-CoV-2, managing to raise 5 million euros.

2022

We began the PAX study, which is the first in Spain that aims to identify a treatment for persistent COVID-19

LINES OF ACTION

Rapid tests

During 2000 and 2021, several studies were carried out to evaluate the rapid tests that already existed on the market as well as newly created ones.

Screening with rapid test

On March 27, 2021, around 5,000 spectators attended a Love of Lesbian concert at the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona after undergoing screening with a rapid antigen test and following protocols to prevent the transmission of the virus such as mask wearing. The analysis of the results has allowed us to confirm that the event had no impact on the transmission of COVID-19.

New variants

Currently, the emergence of new variants of the virus and cases of reinfection are two more fields of study for our team, since their detection and knowledge will allow more useful and effective epidemiological control strategies to be established.

Persistent COVID-19

We promote the first Persistent COVID-19 Unit in Spain.
