The Fight Infections Foundation was established in 1992 at the Germans Trias Hospital by Dr. Bonaventura Clotet, with the aim of supporting the HIV Unit and promoting research and training in this field.
Since then, it has evolved to address infectious diseases as a whole, thanks to the accumulated knowledge of the immune system and an agile organizational structure capable of doing so.

The IrsiCaixa AIDS Research Institute is founded, located in the same hospital.
We initiated collaborations with the world’s leading research centres.
The Foundation promotes the most important charity gala in Spain in the fight against AIDS.
Clinical trials with therapeutic vaccines for people living with HIV begin.
Germans Trias Hospital creates the Department of Infectious Diseases, led by Dr. Clotet.
The COVID-19 pandemic breaks out, and more than 20 research projects on SARS-CoV-2 are launched.
Dr. Clotet receives the National Research Award of Catalonia.
The Foundation expands its research beyond HIV with five new lines of research and becomes the Fight Infections Foundation.
We received the European Hector Research Award for the results of the AELIX-002 clinical trial with the therapeutic HIV vaccine.
We received a European grant of nearly €3M to drive the development of a vaccine against syphilis.
The People in Red Solidarity Gala incorporates the Barcelona brand with the support of the City Council.
We are currently more than 130 professionals fighting to combat infectious diseases.
The Foundation is funded through altruistic contributions from both individuals and companies, the provision of services, and public and private grants.
