This week, Dr Eugènia Negredo, Head of the HIV Research Line at the Fundació Lluita contra les Infeccions, received the Prisma Grant from the biotechnology company Gilead for Healthy Connections, an innovative project aimed at improving the quality of life of people living with HIV.
Researcher Diana Hernández, from the Foundation, will be responsible for the awarded project, Healthy Connections: Development of a territorial ecosystem for the comprehensive management of people with HIV. The project proposes the creation of a territorial health and community ecosystem that enables a much more integrated, accessible and personalised approach to caring for people with HIV, especially those in situations of vulnerability such as women, people over the age of 55, and migrants.
The initiative led by Dr Negredo represents a paradigm shift in HIV care: moving from a model centred exclusively on the hospital to a decentralised network that integrates:
This strategic approach allows for the early identification of unmet needs—medical, social, emotional or structural—while providing responses through agreed-upon care pathways, interoperable tools, and the active participation of patients themselves as co-creators of the model.
The programme is structured in several phases, including:
The ultimate goal is to enhance satisfaction, empowerment and continuity of care for people living with HIV, strengthen treatment adherence, and reduce health inequalities.
The Healthy Connections project stands out for its community-based approach, its use of interoperable technology, and its preventive perspective, as well as for its potential to be scaled up in other autonomous communities.
We thank Gilead for this recognition, which supports and drives forward projects that transform the care of people living with HIV.
